:: Epicure - Self Destruct in 5EpicureThere is often a noticeable difference between what you want and what you get. Although ‘Self Destruct in 5’ is by no means a disappointing EP it does leave you wishing you can get just a little more. The title track is an odd mixture of beautiful balladry and unfulfilled rock, a track that brings you to the very edge of excitement then suddenly falls away when you’re ready for lift off. The remaining four tracks are however a very different kettle of fish. Three of the tracks are live recordings and is clear that the band have no difficulty shining in this arena. Deliciously mellow and solid, they contain a tender quality like freshly made bruises. ’12 Months of Winter’ is the soundtrack for the lost, lonely and abandoned, and plays out sorrow as though it were the most beautiful instrument in the world. Aside from the somewhat dubious beginning, ‘Self Destruct in 5’ is an honest, sincere and captivating collection. |
