:: Eric Burdon - My Secret Life

Eric Burdon

The rock legend returns with his signature voice and he takes a retrospective look at some of the elements that have inspired his music over a long period of time. It’s pleasing to relate to Eric’s love of American music, mostly the blues and soul aspect that symbolised some of the early Animals recordings. Most of the thirteen tracks here generally consist of that thought process. In fact, he wrote/co-wrote eight of the thirteen. His liking of John Lee Hooker is felt in “Can’t Kill The Boogieman” and he observes the characteristics of artists like Marvin Gaye and Otis Redding. The aspect that Burdon/Animals fans will appreciate is the fact that his voice remains on top of the game. Eric’s determined, gritty vocal passages are always recognisable and his voice goes down in music history as one of the best I’ve ever heard. This CD flows pretty well and has a certain edge and eclecticism in it. Tracks to note are the inspiring “Factory Girl” and “Highway 62” with excellent guitar and bluesy harmonica. With fine musicians accompanying him, Eric would be pleased with this in satisfying his many fans. Those not familiar with this superstar rocker will gain some insight and should enjoy Eric trekking past heroes.
