:: Evermore - Real Life

Evermore

As much as Australia would love to claim this talented trio of brothers, their natural and rock soulful music comes from New Zealand. Evermore reminds of evergreen - they, like their New Zealand roots, are natural. That name conjures up an image of three young talented brothers from New Zealand who have been industriously making ripples in the Aus/New Zealand music scene for years and now have just been a big splash. Last year was probably when the first splash happened - when the twiggly glamourous television show “The OC” adopted Evermore’s “It’s Too Late” as a theme song. The other thing that happened was the song was remixed by Deep South and hit number one across Aussie dance floors - it seems successful remixes are a surefire sign of a rock act’s popularity lately, eg Wolfmother’s Woman. Real Life shows maturity, the product of the young band’s hard work. They are more probing, more wondering. Their last album was named Dreams, but in this album, the Kiwi boys have a more conscious sense of reality, “I don’t know, I really don’t know… if this castle in the sand is strong enough to stand.” Musically, Evermore admits that Real Life is directly influenced by the Beatles. Songs are individual stories and direct. The song Light Surrounding You sounds like a fresh faced version of Coldplay. Lyrics are original by the Hume brothers, their song writing skills are sensitive yet hard hitting. Running is poignant and echoing- reminds of Celtic roots, with a sense of urgency. Real Life has a soft yet echoing sound. Just like their It’s Too Late song resounds and resounds, so does this album, particularly songs like Running, Light Surrounding You. Evermore is launching their “Welcome to the Real Life” tour across Australia throughout September and October. Their concerts are very technologically savvy - after a live show, concert goers can buy a cd recording of the live show - how good is that!
