Good improvement is shown by the Sydney band who came to notice about three years ago amid much expectation. Expatriate don't provide something too flashy and unique but, with U2 as a source of inspiration, bring a well produced and capable debut release to the table. The new-wave styled vocals of Ben King are strong and assertive whilst the musicianship shows up especially well on tracks like “Only Wanna Love Ya” and “Gotta Get Home”. The band has an energy and raw enthusiasm that echoes loudly across In The Midst of This. The best part of Expatriate’s sound is their solid pace throughout. The only question for some people could be "Are they too efficient? or the fact that they may need to attain greater consistency. But for me, they have a good chance of making a good name on the Australian music map because of their scope for greater things and just plain development.
