:: Flyleaf - Flyleaf

Flyleaf

This band has captured my imagination this year as one of the best new acts I’ve heard. The self-titled album is a revelation. There is that taste of gothic and Christian sounding elements but pint-sized lead singer Lacey Mosley has shown the ability to unleash one hell of a vocal sound. There is some interesting musicianship behind her with several pieces of experimental guitar. The angry delivery of Flyleaf will appeal to many because they talk in terms of seeking solutions to past woes. The band will not stop short of confronting issues in its songwriting and, through Lacey’s charismatic persona, the messages will be delivered earnestly and purposefully. Already, “I’m So Sick” has created an impression in Australia as a single with its haunting bass line and driving guitars. Lacey’s upbringing, as one of six children with a single mother, is the basis for some revealing lyrics and character building stuff. The urgency then translates into something upbeat and positive. With the guidance of producer Howard Benson at the helm (he has worked with My Chemical Romance, POD, and Papa Roach, amongst others) the band was able to fine tune their sound from earlier spasmodic recordings. It saw a natural maturity develop into what they have now, with scope to burn. Flyleaf is starting to turn heads in a substantial way and their life as a top class band will certainly develop further.
