:: Fourplay - Now To The FutureFourplay‘Now To The Future’ is a rare and special find indeed. It’s ambitious, moody and utterly engaging, not to mention a pure delight. The album is a mix of covers and original work, all given the individual FourPlay touch. As the bands name suggests, this individuality is due in large part to their use of violin, viola and cello. Don’t expect to hear thumping bass or driving riffs, but you can definitely prepare yourself an energetic and tangible musical experience. Lara Goodridge’s vocals add a whole new dimension to the album, weaving intricately between the notes and acting as a finishing touch to many of the tracks. A particular stand out is the cover version of the classic “Cry Me A River”, which captures just a small glimpse of FourPlay’s talent at creating wonderful musical aesthetics. Aside from the fantastic original work, keep an ear out for the renditions of Radiohead’s “2+2=5”, and Miles Davis’ “All Blues”. It’s unlikely that ‘Now To The Future’ will be a major commercial success, but really that’s one of the things that make it so good. This is real music performed by talented musicians, and a long way from the glossy and overproduced chartbusters. This album warrants a stray from the mainstream, and proves the idea it’s always good to see what else is out there. | ![]() |
