:: Friends Of Mine - Can't See StraightFriends Of MineYou can’t judge a book its cover and you definitely can’t judge a band by one single, which makes passing judgement on Sydney/Melbourne-based indie/electronic duo Friends of Mine a very difficult affair indeed. Friends of Mine’s debut single ‘Can’t See Straight’ is a throbbing and hedonistic blend of dance, pop and trance indie. The grinding vocals pierce through the mess of background beats and heady electronic roar to create pure musical bliss, while a very addictive chorus sends you spinning past pounding guitar rifts and shrieking electronica extravagance. Listening to ‘Can’t See Straight’, you can’t help but notice how similar Friends of Mine are to fellow dance group the Presets, which is probably thanks to their collaboration with Sydney-based master producer Scott Horscroft, who has worked with many bands including the aforementioned Presets. But don’t let this similarity lull you into thinking Friends of Mine are simply a carbon copy of every other electronic/indie mash up. ‘Can’t See Straight’ is a fresh and highly infectious single and it will be very interesting to see what the duo do next. | ![]() |
