Fast, jazzy and smooth, the Funk Club’s latest compilation experiments with all the shapes, sizes and colours that make funk. Opening with the toe-tapping sounds of the jazz era, ‘Hold’n Strong’ and ‘Get Up on Ya Feet’ set the tone for an upbeat and fun collection of music full of passion and talent. From there a little rap and beat boxing in ‘Neander Man Rock’ break the mold and offer some variation from the deep, sensual feel and rhythm of the rest of the album. The instrumentals and the melodies spotted throughout many tracks are just gorgeous. Such works of talent, they just lift the music to a whole new level. In this regard they can only really be appreciated by those who speak its language. So music like this is suited more for those who have a deep affiliation with the genre. But overall even for amateurs like myself, it’s not too bad.
