:: Consistency Theory

1200 Techniques

Brass tacks here, gentlemen. Consistency Theory is 1200 Techniques second and finest LP so far. The standout ‘Eye of the Storm’, getting heavy rotation on Triple J, is a real ear-opener, a melodic, hypnotic piece of hip-hop that almost sheds its Australian sheath to become universal. The rest of the LP is largely more expected. Their fusion of new and old hip-hop is their own sound, and they do it well. This album, unlike their first, a malaise of recordings, is a structured funky beast of a long-play, a hip-hop album first and foremost. Consistency is important in this business. In Peril’s words, ‘you’re only as good as your last album,’ and right now, 1200 Techniques is as good as anybody’s last album.
