:: The Driver Is Red

Adam Said Galore

Several years of music searching now sees this Perth band finally release this album. It’s made of pure indie rock foundations with lots of energy. You can sense a particular motive with this band, being much in the mould of being honest to themselves and the fans in creating their own special atmosphere and feeling. And they don’t keep to a straight routine. They extract an emotion-filled set of songs covering the feelings of angst and frustration. The band had the skills of Chicago engineer Casey Rice (worked with Liz Phair and Tortoise) to engage his input into the songs. Apparently there was a great atmosphere in the recording process. The intensity is evident in the finished product. It will be interesting to gauge reaction by their long-time fans because of how these songs measure up from the band’s beginnings to where they’re aiming at. This is a good, purposeful album though, with highlights being the opening track “Anxious”, closing track “Barber Ted” and “Coasting On Home”. These and most of the others demonstrate fine musicianship and there is much more to look forward to from this band.
