Alexkid

Alexis Mauri is a Frenchman who has released several EPs during the past five years. This is his first album and it’s one to savour. He delivers many interesting episodes that show off his talents as an instrumentalist, while being capably accompanied by the clever wind instrumentals of Renaud Pion and Stefane Goldman on various types of guitars. He has built a substantial following across Europe and the USA on the back of 4 critically acclaimed EP’s released over the past couple of years. This release has an appealing understatement about it. It’s dance music, but it’s not constrained to the ever present thump-thump-thump beat common to this genre. Some tracks such as “arbore”, the title track, and “Nightlines” are heavy in the Latin feel and sound very effective. My favourite tracks are “Maybe” which sounds like the theme song for a cool action thriller movie (you here this song and expect something to happen!) and the understated “I Think”.
