:: A Fine Day To Exit

Anathema

Variously described as the ‘new’ Radiohead, Anathema are a Liverpool quintet. A Fine Day to Exit is their sixth album. As far as the reputation goes, the first track “Pressure” certainly reminds one of Radiohead – only better! It’s a melancholy exploration of despair that hooks you in – undoubtedly the highlight of the album. The second track “Release” after an acoustic first half of the song stirs to life as driving rock and roll. The soundscapes used on this recording are lush and multi-layered. There is much to listen too throughout the recording. The producer Nick Griffith, having worked with Pink Floyd, is obviously no stranger to full-blown recordings. Here, he uses all his and the bands skills to deliver one of the finest albums to come from the Brits in quite a while. Some of the other many highlights include the pure rock fury of “Panic”, “Looking Outside Inside”, a soft and mellow ballad, and the title track which features some great mood setting guitar and a rich tempo changes. This album is well worth checking out.
