:: This Satin Doll

Barbara Steel

This is another overseas artist that I’ve recently been introduced to, and if offers a touch of contemporary jazz, laced with modern grooves and skilful instrumentation. Barbara makes her specialty in phrasing and in bringing out the true value of the old songs. The opening track, “Satin Doll” sums up her smooth, sensual style in an acid jazz environment. Later there is a more old-style jazz number “Love For Sale”, which contains a beautiful piano and flute sound. Barbara delves into a Beatles song “I Should’ve Known Better” for a delightfully haunting rendition. She has capable accompaniment with a set of fine musicians, in bringing the jazz and swing elements to the fore. Jazz enthusiasts will love this album because they would have heard the beautiful voice of Barbara Steel give a new and sexual enhancement.
