:: Play It Like ThatBardotMany observers predicted that Bardot wouldn’t get past album number one. This second album of theirs starts off well with the sub-2step styling of the title track. “I Need Somebody” is fine pop music and has already made a big impression as something substantial for the all-girl group. There is a good rhythmic track “You Got Me Feeling”. A couple of loose songs stop the album from higher accolades. The jangly nature of “Love Will Find A Way” and the strangely titled “When The Cat’s Away” are open to imagination. Other good tracks to note are “Dirty Water” and “Before I Let You Go”. The album does have its finer moments and shows that the girls are working hard to bury remaining criticism and stigmas attached to their origins. A good example is the soulful touch on “Don’t Call Me, I’ll Call You”. It hits the mark in a satisfactory way and shows the development that many people thought wasn’t possible. The energy and sparkle comes with experience. I give them due credit for their efforts and some well-crafted tunes in the future will see them rise another level again. http://www.bardot.net.au |
