Betchadupa

Fairly large in New Zealand and winners of best New Act at the 2001 NZ Music Awards, Betchadupa are worth a listen if only for their great little name. Betchadupa…I love it. The first single, Sleepy News is soft-loud little number that sounds like much that has been before and no doubt much that will come after. Nice guitar break in the middle of the track ensures the obligatory Radiohead style breakdown that is apparently compulsory for any success in the UK. There is even some Radiohead-Bends style squelching at the 4min mark. I actually liked the accompanying track “Lucid Dream” the best of the bunch. A nice brooding acoustic/electro-shuffle number that shows an incredible understanding of why Air is so popular. I like the sound of Betchadupa on this track.
