As the title suggests, this album is a hardcore rocker’s dream. Lots of heavy riffing, menacing vocals, double bass pedal drums et al – you get the picture! On first listen it appears to be just that, however Clutch are pretty good at delivering with just enough subtle variation to make it a little interesting. “American Sleep” and “Pure Rock Fury” are pure rock. “Careful With That Mic..” is a pretty good dissing rap while “Red Horse Rainbow” is a little bluesier – like ZZ Top on speed. The lyrics are a point of interest, none of your typical tit and arse songs or obsessions with the devil you might expect to find. It’s a pretty good release. It also comes with a CDROM component for extra pleasure and fun.
