:: Dark DaysCoal ChamberThe band has returned from a significant layoff to release this third album of their career. They replaced founding bass guitarist Rayna (who settled into being a mother) with Nadja and she brings a new aggressive style. Nothing has been lost with Nadja’s ability. The break did then good. They toured heavily from the previous album “Chamber Music”, so they now return with a rejuvenated sound and outlook. The music is typically hard-hitting and powerful. I have observed from their previous releases that singer/ songwriter Dez Fafara has been keen to retain their raw, pure metal sound as he never liked metal being watered down like it has been. The lyrics are positive and they tell how the band has evolved over recent years and it gives the right messages. The dark, dynamic sound comes through well on tracks like “Fiend” and the title track. There is a bit more edge to this album and they remain tall among heavy rock exponents. http://www.coalchamber.com |
