:: SirenaCousteauThe British five-piece band gives us a beautiful, melancholic set of songs that ooze sophistication. They show an ability to charm listeners with their smooth pop pleasures. The interesting ideas and arrangements come swirling around in the mind. There is imaginative songwriting and the songs are very accessible in terms of melodies and textures. The lyrics are moody and introspective in dealing with the less attractive aspects of love. The lovely voice of Liam McKahey puts the listener to attention with a charming flow. A highlight is the gorgeous melody of “Talking To Myself” and his falsetto on “Please Don’t Cry”. Overall, Cousteau paint the pop pictures with aplomb. I think that the band’s founder Davey Ray Moor, as an accomplished songwriter and musician that he is, has sensed that people are growing into Cousteau’s more easy listening mode. |
