:: SpinDarren HayesEx-Savage Garden lead vocalist Darren Hayes had set his sights on a solo album for some time. He now delivers a brilliant album that contains twelve tracks plus an exclusive track only available in Australia and Japan, titled “A Heart Wants What It Wants”. Darren is in fine singing form, as evidenced by the promotional appearances he recently made in Australia to promote “Spin”. There is a strong consistency of soul and passion displayed throughout the set. There are mostly mid-paced shiny pop tunes and Darren employs some of his favourite 80s style effects, with a dash of synth pop and electronica, to good effect. His falsetto works beautifully, heard already on the first single “Insatiable” and soon-to-be-single (I suspect) “Heart Attack”, through the themes of passion, desire and rejection. Other infectious melodies include “Strange Relationship”, “Creepin’”, and “Crush”. Darren therefore stays true to his beliefs in the type of album he wanted to produce. The sweet, rounded sounds, that complement his affirmative, energetic style, should appeal to his global audience. |
