Dido

Dido releases her first solo effort, after making herself known as a singer for trip-hop collective Faithless, for which her brother Rollo is the lead man. In fact, she called upon Rollo as co-writer and programmer, plus a series of other musicians, make this an interesting adventure. What captures the imagination is the wonderful voice. Dido sings in an apparent effortless manner, and delivers some gorgeous love songs. They may be considered, in the main, as safe and radio friendly, but there is no denying the lyrical quality. “Thank You” is the song that has been sampled on Eminem’s “Stan”. It’s a sweet love song, which is Dido’s own personal favourite from the album. Good cosy numbers such as “Don’t Think Of Me” and the wonderfully atmospheric “Slide”. The first single, the sensual “Here With Me” propelled her talent. The song will also appear in the upcoming film “Bounce”. It’s been a great hit for her. “All You Want” has sweet, heartfelt lyrics. The intimacy and romanticism shines through gloriously. “Isobel” is one instance where dreamy dub-like sound is due to the Faithless influence. But it’s not a case of aiming for a dance floor crowd. She heads to the chill-out room with music moods for a late-night sojourn to a classy establishment where the focus is on putting everything at ease and relaxing to these songs. . Therefore, it’s not hard to see why the album has done very well in the USA. It combines Dido’s love for warm, acoustic sounds with her brother’s fascination with beats. It’s a sparkling debut album.
