:: One Piece MissingDreadnaughtAfter seeing a recent live show, I would have to say that Dreadnaught has developed into one of the best live bands in Melbourne. They grabbed my attention and maintained it right through the show to play some feisty guitar rock and allowing a development of smooth rock alongside a fast and furious metal output. This EP, therefore, showcases their talent well. With their charismatic vocalist, Greg, giving us the “Angry Anderson type” fire in the belly charisma, the band can kick some butt and, as shown here, develop the versatility to blend different sounds. In fact, the opening track “Pushed To The Limit” represents a softer edge – a very accessible song. They throw in two cover songs, “Cold Sweat”, the old Thin Lizzy song, and “The Nile Song”, from Pink Floyd. Both are played confidently and very well. One of Dreadnaught’s best songs to date is “The Complex”. In this EP, it’s given an acoustic rock version. There is a sheer beauty about the song. Overall, this is a great and varied showcase of a band that should start being recognised more widely for the talent they possess. |
