:: EchobrainEchobrainEx-Metallica bassist Jason Newstead has given the impetus that this band requires and his contribution leads to something new in today’s sounds. There is a dose of 780s rock with a trace of psychedelia. It’s a good debut, with clever songwriting and terrific guitar playing by Brian Sagrafena. The melodic alt-rock sounds fresh and enthusiastic, with a straight-ahead attitude and well-layered music to absorb. You’ll be surprised when you have a listen to this fresh sounding album. Plenty of hooks and an occasional pounding sound, like that in the song “Colder World”, is well complemented with touches of psychedelia, as in “The Feeling Is Over”. The band works well together and the unusual thing, that Metallica fans will observe, is that metal influences are rare. The epic song “Cryon’ Shame” showcases the various elements of the Echobrain structure and is a worthy six minutes to savour with lead singer Dylan Donkin in full voice. There is also a hidden track – a fun way to wrap up an interesting record. |
