Falling Joys

This compilation of the singles released by Aussie band the Falling Joys is a real nugget. Listening to this album, it conveys a sense of that early-90s era of beautiful guitar pop also exemplified by The Clouds, The Hummingbirds, and Ratcat. The singles on this disc were released between 1989 and 1995 and as such is also representative of that era when the underground was dragged into the mainstream. It is surprising that the gorgeous, clean guitar melodies and languid vocals that characterise many of these songs did not propel the Falling Joys into the post-Nirvana fame slipstream. This compilation shows off just how strong many of the Falling Joys’ compositions were and would make a great purchase for those of us who are old enough to remember.
