:: Comfort In Sound

Feeder

It had been a distressing time for Feeder after the suicide of previous drummer Jon Lee early last year. Being difficult to gel thoughts and just the difficulty in recovering meant that the band went back to work on a new album in a very reflective mood. This shows out on this new album. The essence of that feeling come through strongly on two worthy tracks “just The Way I’m feeling” and “Come Back Around”. They are both sentimental, although you feel the sense of loss in the final track “Moonshine”, where singer Grant Nicholas eulogises his mate’s loss surrounded by whirling guitars. In between, there is perhaps a slight over-doing of sentiment and emotion. It doesn’t totally convince, although “Godzilla”, a faster-paced track, gets the band fired up to heavy rock proportions. All things considered, despite the slight inconsistencies, it is good to see Feeder back playing their brand of music and paying tribute to Jon Lord with admirable quality. It will be interesting to gauge their future direction and whether they can raise the level to greater heights.
