Foo Fighters

Dave Grohl has injected a more harder-edged sound into the Foo Fighters after spending some of this year playing with the big rockers Queens Of The Stone Age. Obviously, it’s been a worthwhile exercise because, in my mind, this pushes the band further than before into their best work to date. The songs demand attention from top to bottom because brilliant riffs augment the pop hooks and more grunt. The single “All My Life” has already signalled the “extra” sound and one senses greater confidence and acceptance of this new material. Other highlights are “Times Like These” and “Tired Of You”. Probably the most Queens Of The Stone Age influence comes in “Low” - blasting guitars and heavy drumming. Generally speaking, the kick-in attitude plunders through the strong choruses and fans will appreciate the versatility in the heavy rock style offset with sweet melodies. Grohl has seen the future for Foo Fighters and the greater depth sees this set crunch cohesively, and is an excellent listen by a tight unit.
