Full Fathom Five

This Queensland outfit has generally hit the right notes in their debut album. Electronic influences abound and they have been able to cultivate various sounds in a relatively stripped-back version of their normal output. Not easy for a six-piece group of varying influences. “Ready Light” provides a cracking start with an enterprising, melodic rhythm. Through the next few tracks, you’ll realise a sense of diversity in the multi-layered sounds and the overall production style. There is the hip-hop groove of “Who’s Your Daddy”, which curiously has been a radio song, but not their normal style. These songs have the right atmosphere for the occasion and easy to grasp when listening. One could probably get different ideas from listening to this set of tracks. It’s a worthy adventure and offers speculation on what Full Fathom Five could yet produce. Knowing where they stand in the genre stakes will be important for them to determine, but they show talent and versatility of sound. There is much development and scope ahead and their live show should be worth seeing.
