Good Charlotte

We’ve already had a taste of this US band from a single “Little Things” earlier this year. It’s a funky, punk song with strong lyrics and a punchy arrangement. The rest of the album contains some polished punk-pop songs. Good Charlotte is very much their own band and it shows in the type of material and the way they say it. They have an ear for quirky sounds and the ability to sustain it. Twin brothers Benji and Joel provide a songwriting spark on universal themes. They’ve had a troubled past, and there is therefore a genuine honesty in what they deliver. Other highlights are “Change”, a simple, sincere song with terrific vocals, and “Thank You Mom”, an ode to the twins’ mother who solely raised the boys. It’s a very emotional moment. The riffs are vigorous and the punk-pop sounds are aggressive. These are good songs with a purpose and worth a listen. They have many other songs ready to go and it will be interesting to watch their development. http://www.goodcharlotte.com
