Grand Drive

Two Australian-born brothers, Danny and Julian Wilson, are part of Grand Drive. It’s been a long road to get to the stage of releasing an album in Australia, after several English releases and building a good indie reputation there. To break outside of England, they give Australians a “Best Of” album as a starting point. The music is honest and uncomplicated – a good feel with a pop-country theme. The harmonies are the foundation of what they offer as the Wilson boys share vocals and songwriting efforts. A couple of highlights are “Needle In The Groove”, for a more upbeat, funky tone, and “Jukebox”, for glorious harmonies and good flow. As the band’s supposed best work compiled here, there is a sense of honest songwriting talent and something that doesn’t wander around the place as a musical style. The simple, effective technique will win some fans. We’ll now await their next stage with interest.
