:: Scholarship In Punk”/Campfire Girl #62

Guttermouth

The self professed ‘alpha dogs of party punk’ from California, unleash ‘Scholarship in Punk’ and Campfire Girl #62 from their album Gusto. A love song of sorts, ‘Campfire Girl #62’, is a light hearted and contagious rifling through world of punk rock. The attempt to bring a high degree of humour to this track fell short of the mark and was no comparison to the comedic wit and insight of Australia’s own pranksters, Frenzal Rhomb. ‘Scholarship in Punk’ kicks along a bit more, taking an all too familiar look at high school days. Bonus unreleased track ‘Hit Machine’ recorded live in Vancouver is furious and aggressive, and the highlight of the disc. It appears that the Guttermouth boys have slipped down the punk food chain, becoming more like old mutts that wait for left overs than ‘alpha dogs.’ There is no doubt that Guttermouth’s new material will leave fans everywhere thinking ‘I used to really like Guttermouth…’
