James Moore

Raw, rough on the edges but passionately energetic and engaging is James Moore’s debut album. An impressive feat since Moore does the vocals, drums, keyboard and percussion that he deftly produced and mixed. Moore’s music is considered alternative-pop, it’s marked by catchy melodies and tight arrangements, accompanied by colourful guitar riffs, uplifting crescendos and subtle keyboard flourishes. “Head Down” and “Zero Hour” are such examples. The title track belies rock influences from Guns & Roses, Bon Jovi, but just as you’re feeling smug, Moore kicks towards the sound of Weezer and Foo Fighters. Moore’s talent in songwriting is without doubt but he is no balladeer when it comes to singing ballads like “Dizzy” or songs with high-ranged parts like “The Tower”. Moore’s vocal range is limited even though he does possess a full-bodied voice, but that should not stop you from enjoying the album.
