:: ResonateJimmy LittleThis is a truly beautiful record. I’ll admit that I hadn’t heard much of Jimmy Little’s recorded output before this wonderful album came across my desk, but I was aware of how well respected and admired he is, particularly after his last album, Messenger. For this album, Little has recorded songs written by some of Australia’s finest songwriters. For the most part, these are new songs written for Jimmy. The writing talent here is exceptional: Stephen Cummings, Don Walker, Powderfinger’s Bernard Fanning, Dave Graney and many more. But it’s really Jimmy’s sublime voice and the gentle warm instrumentation of the album that make this so rewarding. From the opener, Surely God Is A Lover, with the weeping guitar set to lyrics by Paul Kelly to the remarkable cover of the Triffids’ Bury Me Deep In Love, there is so much to take in and savour. This is true Australian soul music. Buy it and enjoy on a lazy Aussie summer afternoon. |
