:: ViberateJoydropThis is a fantastic album from a vastly underrated band. They’d earned critical acclaim for their previous “Metasexual” album and the hit song “Beautiful”. They went on to tour and perform over 300 concerts. This effort is awesome in showcasing wonderful musicians and a glorious female singer in Tara Slone. She displays a rare vocal attitude through seemingly effortless output. The backing of strong percussion and adrenalin-filled guitar playing adds to a quality recording. It is produced by Garth Richardson (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against The Machine). There are hooks aplenty. “American Dreamgirl” is quite an aggressive, growling song. “Sometimes Wanna Die” has a lovely catchy chorus. The title track “Viberate” adds many sparks and pushes the energy button. Other worthy mentions for “Swan Song” – sublime with great verve, “Embrace” – showcases Tara’s wonderful vocals. Hopefully, music lovers will get out and buy this because Joydrop deserve greater attention. This is one of my favourites for 2002. |
