Kathy September was born in the Caribbean island of Antigua; spent her childhood years in England before moving to Canada. Now, she has settled in Sydney, Australia and has become known to us through a large promotional campaign for her debut release – the self-titled EP through an independent label Nambshub Media. With the project being backed by http://www.telstra.com and http://www.sanity.com.au, there is great expectation about this new talent. The campaign seems justified in these initial stages. The EP presents five diverse tracks sung by a charming, charismatic singer who looks a natural performer. The main song to date is “Guilty Roses”, and it shows an honest songwriting talent. Kathy had apparently long been expressing her inner thoughts through poetry. Bringing those thoughts into a musical process is a great move. With an immediate “look and personality”, Kathy shows early indications of rising high. There is also an enterprising animated video that accompanies the audio on the CD.
