:: ForeverKid RockForever is the latest single from Detroit redneck Kid Rock. “I’m back”, he sings with the basic rock/rap formula that has proven popular for bands like Limp Bizkit, Crazy Town and Linkin Park. Throughout the song Kid Rock sings about creating what he calls “Punk Rock” by mixing Southern Rock with Hip Hop and the song is basically just that. But do we really need an explanation? I think we could have figured that out for ourselves. Forever is a sort of signature song about Kid Rock and what he stands for. This is a sort of explanatory song where Kid Rock tells everyone what he’s all about, although he tries a little to hard to prove his edge. So he says he’ll always be the one and only Kid Rock, but what is this supposed to mean? The element of “I’m not going anywhere no matter if you like me or not” comes through, thrown in with an “I don’t take shit from anyone” kind of attitude, but it’s difficult to appear hardcore when you’re a “Southern” Rocker, singing about a “Redneck boogie”. Take the artwork for example. The front cover shows Kid Rock sporting his redneck best, wearing a cowboy hat and boots with a white singlet and outgrown hair. No matter how much he tries to prove his slickness, his hick attitude doesn’t fool anyone. B-sides include the “Explicit Album Version” of Forever, with the naughty words left in and I’m A Dog that sounds even more southern. The “explicit” version has hardly enough words to accumulate explicit status, and I’m A Dog continues to prove just how much of a redneck Kid Rock really is. |
