:: PresentKilling HeidiThis has been in the pipeline for a long time. The popular Melbourne band has set about following their love of loud and instinctive rock ‘n’ roll. The success of first album “Reflector” came a while ago now and the anxiety for the follow-up was stalled due to various circumstances, including surgery for vocalist Ella Hooper on her throat. All that is done now and they have been itching for this new release. They have a right to be pleased with their efforts. We’d already heard the songs Heaven Sent and Outside of Me – very typical of the Killing Heidi sound. There are a few excellent tracks to admire. “Sweet” is upbeat and exuberant on Ella’s part in particular. It’s so much in line with the band’s personality. There is also a very rock focused “Burnt” – distorted guitars and strong drums with Ella’s dynamic vocals, and the exploding chorus of “To Fly”, containing the enthusiastic drum sequences. Because the band is so dynamic and ferocious as a live act, the production tries hard to exert this influence and bring it out for the fans. It certainly pumps along feverishly. Ella does different things with her voice and she performs exceedingly well. I believe, however, that Killing Heidi will want to reach for more as the songwriting and instrumentation matures in the near future. We’ll see them develop even further. In the meantime, enjoy this album. |
