Lazy Susan

A very good release from this Australian band. The songs are excellently crafted, an agreeable mix of pop with an earthy rawness. The album gives you the impression that it was recorded over a pleasant Sunday afternoon, especially a track called “Fresh Air” which, pardon the pun, is a bright and breezy little number-straight out of the sixties. There are many stand out tracks, “Skywriters” is an anthemic track perfect single material. “My Everest” is a melancholy song in a minor key with a chorus that paraphrases Gough Whitlam ‘May we say God Save the Queen because nothing will save me’. My personal favourite is “Phone in Sick” (It's still dark, six o'clock, alarm is causing spasms of shock), a series of thoughts that cross my mind probably every weekday! The lively “Canada” features a chorus that could easily become an alternative anthem for the country. The cover art is worth a mention - a collection of photos and sentences that seem to portray the story of an anonymous one-night motel affair. For the most part this is top shelf lively pop well worth the investment. http://www.lazy-susan.net
