Live

The boys from Live return with their fifth studio album, “V”. This is one of those albums that gets better and better with every listen. Having set some very high standards with previous recordings (has their been a more powerful release than “Throwing Copper” in the last 5 or 6 years?), “V” is a worthy addition in their fine career. Probably one of their more adventurous releases, they’ve definitely explored the worlds of funk and hip-hop, this is most obvious at the start of the CD. The opening single “Simple Creed” is fantastic, a throbbing rocker with just a hint of new found funk. The second track, “Deep Enough”, is a sexy piece about the meat market nightclub scene “…The place was packed with sweaty palms and sweaty thongs…”- I don’t think they mean the ‘Australian’ thong. “Like A Soldier” keeps the standard high. The theme of love, prevalent on Live’s last album “The Distance To Here” is re-visited again on tracks like “Transmit Your Love”, “OK?” and “Hero of Love”. Other tracks worthy of mention is the retro ballad “Call Me a Fool”, which has a nice 70s feel with the Hammond organ grinding away. There is the rocking “Forever May Not be Long Enough” which sounds like it belongs in a James Bond soundtrack, and the next single “Overcome” with a bit of funky rhythm guitar chopping away. They are currently touring Australia so make sure you see their tour, I saw them last time they visited, and I can assure you it will be a wicked night.
