:: The Strangest ThingsLongwaveA band that offers verve and enthusiasm has much going for it immediately. New Yorkers Longwave come into our musical life with some pulsating, catchy tracks in their major label debut album. Terrific songs form the basis of their appeal and they wrap it into their own melodic, bass-heavy manner. “Everywhere You Turn” was the first single released, showcasing the entrenched vocal power of Steve Schiltz in a post-punk manner. Other good rocking tracks include “I Know It’s Coming Someday” and “Pool Song”. The consistency of the material probably falls away a little towards the end. They need to focus on their own vision, in this world of new pop, and the songwriting and performance will surely benefit. Longwave shows enough talent to indicate bigger things are on the horizon. This is a taste with a few things to work on yet. Those who saw them live on their recent trip to Australia would feel the same way. |
