:: Nothing Borrowed

Mark Pengilly

This is a new independent release from Mark Pengilly (brother of INXS’ Kirk) and it’s been a long time coming. He once had a band in Adelaide called Coo. Now, he resurfaces with an acoustic-based recording, and it tells quite a bit about Mark’s journey over this long period. Mark uses local Adelaide musicians to help accomplish this album and it generally has a raw edge to folk background. He aims to create great songs and he adopts an introspective thought process. There are sad, poignant moments such as “A Loner Alone” and “Bully For Me”. There isn’t a consistency throughout the set, with a couple of bland numbers lacking any sharpness but Mark Pengilly gives this a good shot and his songwriting should be a feature of his future work.
