:: Still The Flowers BloomMick HartMick has been a hard working singer/songwriter on the NSW scene for several years. Putting his body and soul into his first album is a deserved reward for him. The well-constructed songs breathe effortlessly into the heart of the discerning listener. He has a powerful vocal range that can reach great heights or just gently caress tenderly. Generally, he packs a punchy assortment of rock ideals that are suited ideally to a live stage where one can witness the full ferocity of effort. By normal debut album standards, this is a great adventurous effort, but Mick has done the hard work to put his experience towards an addictive set of tracks. The backing band, complete with vibrant guitars and accomplished violin, serves him well. Highlights to look for are the title track with its emotion and twisting textures, “Chameleon” with a layered approach that stirs the feelings, the violin input on “Purity”, and a great track from Mick’s previous EP, “Lost”. That song has an emotion-tinged soft stance before building to a whirling crescendo. Just Mick and his acoustic guitar lay the scene for the magical “Sweet Light” which rounds out the album beautifully. Mick Hart, as honest as he is in these songs, has put himself forward to receive due credit and perhaps reap some rewards for doing the hard slog over the years. http://www.mickhart.com.au |
