:: MudheadMudheadThis is a new project for INXS star Garry Gary Beers and former Southern Sons star Jack Jones. In fact, this is the first release for the recently formed Override Records, of which Garry has been the driving force. With some talented musicians assembled (including guitarist Dave Leslie of Baby Animals fame), they release this debut album of well-crafted songs that are delivered fervently and passionately. Delving into their past rock heroes as influences, Jones shows the way with his fine vocal range, while the guitars play effectively and the electro-packed interludes will raise attention. This is conveyed well on tracks like “Carry Me Away” and “Inside”. It’s good to see Jack express a new freedom to his musical ambitions. His guitar playing has been underrated because of previous perceptions. He even takes a hand at the drums on “Angel Mine”, just for something different. Garry has taken a strong hand in the studio techniques, and is augmented by the talented engineer Kaju Tanuma in a polished production. Australian and New Zealand music fans will notice one familiar song on the album that will come immediately to mind. The classic Dragon song “Are You Old Enough?” gets the Mudhead treatment. This album serves as a reminder about the talent that these guys possess. |
