:: Latvian LoversNot From ThereThis is the second LP from Australian trio, Not From There. Latvian Lovers is an eclectic mix of genres. Drawing on techno, 70’s disco, Latin, pock and pop, the overall effect is rather experimental and surprisingly listenable. Recorded under quarantine due to a virus scare, Not From There locked themselves away from isolation with producer Magoo – maybe that’s the reason the majority of the CD has a melancholy, almost desperate feel. Built on mostly slow-middle tempo beats, it has definite European influences, not least the track “Sticky Wes” which features predominantly German lyrics. Highlight tracks for me were “Frisco Disco”, the very laid back - possibly drug influenced “Lounge Anthem” and the final track “Silence Among the Revolutionaries”, which musically is reminiscent of some of the mid-90’s U2 in parts (it could easily be The Edge playing guitar). All in all, this is a very interesting 42 minute, 19 second musical journey – worth the trip if you dare. |
