Considering Paul Brady has written for stars such as Tina Turner, Carlos Santana, Cher, Phil Collins and Ronan Keating, I was expecting this single to be somewhat spectacular. ‘The Hawana Way’ has all the elements of a hit, catchy lyrics and a move your feet beat, but it somehow fails to be a standout. The B-side tracks however, are snapshots of Brady’s skill, and it is through these it becomes clear why he is one of the world’s most revered songwriters. The solo acoustic tracks ‘I Want You To Want Me’, and ‘Don’t Keep Pretending’, show that Brady is a remarkable talent, and well worth the plaudits he receives.
