Paul Mac

I remember hearing and seeing a little of what was to come about twelve months ago, when Paul Mac made a rare public appearance in Sydney. He gathered some of the best local female talent to sing vocals on a few tracks. As an indication of what was to come for the resultant album, it sounded an exciting project. After all, Paul has had a distinguished career in the Australian dance scene for ten years. In signing to Eleven Records and bringing his well-produced music across a more mainstream audience, it’s a classy, sophisticated album of house and soul elements with some wonderful vocal performances. Throughout this year, Paul has released a couple of singles as a guide to what to expect. Powerful Sydney singer Peta Morris is well featured, providing vocals on the songs “Just The Thing”, “Set You Free”, “The Sound Of Breaking Up” and “See You Much Later”. Abby Dobson (ex-Leonardo’s Bride) is a singer that I have greatly admired over the past few years. Her soft, delicate charm shows on “Gonna Miss You” and “Above The Clouds”. We are also introduced to singers Jacqui Hunt and Elizabeth Martin and their own seductive charm, while the unmistakable vocals of Tex Perkins place a masculine touch to track 6 “Heatseeking Pleasure Machine”, a single released a few months ago. And, of course, there is Paul Mac working away in the background, defining his own sound to each song before settling for two instrumentals to end the CD. Those fans looking for traditional Paul Mac dance flavours won’t get his Itch-e & Scratch-e tastes, but he allows space for the vocalist to slip into the front line of his arrangements. This is one album I recommend strongly.http://www.paulmac.com.au
