:: An Effort To Do GoodPeskyThis album comes from an Internet-based label, Closed System, in Kansas City. They release this by a three-piece group, the first band on the label. It has a warm sound, due to 1960s influences, in effecting a simple, melodic set. Pesky provides good lyrical content in the short songs (12 songs in 30 minutes), and display promise with good fun pop. The album was recorded in a basement using an 8-track ADAT. That’s where the warmth comes in – great rhythms and vocal harmonies. There are a couple of times where the guitars don’t match the vocal needs. The home recording lacks the oomph sometimes. They’ll need to move beyond that way in order to make a bigger impression, but there is plenty to offer, though. The CD is good for the college scene and general US indie circles. One thing to note from the website is that all the tracks have been made available at http://www.closed-system.com, so that budding producers can have a go at remixing them. I look forward to what they do next. |
