:: Haunted

Poe

It’s been a fair wait to listen and react to Poe’s latest album. This is her second album, and she has already been marked with a sense of unpredictability. The title is “Haunted”, and Poe delves into remembering her late father and displays a defiant passion in taking us into her intimate life. The album is very much written on Pro Tools, so it’s a bringing together of her own melodic voice and various samples. The title track is one of the brooding songs that capture her poignant feelings. She never shirks an issue and has crafted some fervent thoughts through “Control” and “Walk The Walk”. It’s as though Poe is coming to terms with self-realisation. She even has samples of her father’s voice recorded into some of the music that adds a touch of spookiness – keeping it in tune with the album title. Other worthy tracks, which could see the light of day as singles, in their own right, are “Wild”, another gloriously, moody Poe feeling, in a pop vein, plus the final track “Hey Pretty”, with its Drive-by 2001 mix. It’s quite an experience to listen to this album of eighteen tracks. I’m unsure about her ability to be a mainstream artist. She has that edgier, indie feel which sets her apart from many other female artists. But her songwriting on this album will surely identify with a wide audience.http://www.p-o-e.com
