Pound System

Once the darlings of Melbourne’s crossover dance scene, the Pound System represented perfectly what their name suggested – a pounding dancefloor experience with some brains. Live, they are explosive and previous releases have enjoyed notable radio success. Gone is the tech-edge of previous releases, including a fascination with breakbeat. The boys have served up club friendly deep and dark progressive house. It’s late night fodder for big clubs and sweaty dancefloors. Not unlike the Zero Tolerance sound native to Melbourne, but not nearly as sinister or adventurous, As you were is a worthy track nonetheless. It wouldn’t be out of place on one of the generic progressive compilations that clog the promotion bins at your local record store. The irony is that the Pound System hasn’t progressed at all. They have conformed, which is sad really.
