Prop is an instrumental 5 piece hailing from Sydney. The mark of difference with these guys is the instruments to be found: vibraphone, marimba, synths, bass guitar, drums and percussion to name a few! This is their debut release (for which they received a Government grant to promote). Musically, it’s impressive. Ten instrumentals each conveying individuality as well as contributing to the overall feel of the album. Highlight tracks for me included “Mount Zero” – the gradually building crescendo is a delight! The jazzy feel of “Solo Trip”, and the gentle ebb and flow of “Low”, featuring glockenspiel throughout. The album’s centrepiece is undoubtedly the epic “Magnetic Highway/Remora”, at over 13 minutes. This track allows the group to show off their Sydney Conservatory trained musical talents in fine style. Check them out live! http://www.prop.com.au
