:: AppetiteRachael KaneAustralian singer/songwriter Rachael Kane makes an impressive debut with her first album ‘Appetite’. A well-rounded collection of guitar pop tracks, it is the product of years of experience, a desire to ‘live for the moment’ and a reflection of her long time search for happiness. Quite a lot for someone so young, yet refreshing all the same. Kane has already proven she has what it takes to stand in the highly competitive world of pop radio. Her first single ‘Happy Messy Love’ was a hit with many. Her second single from the album, ‘Jumping Out Of My Skin’, is not so much a complimentary follow up, but rather a renewed assault full of contagious energy. About her experiences in New York, the song recreates for the listener Kane’s excitement at being in a place ‘full of positive energy’ ‘where people encourage you to be an artist’. As opposed to many female performers in the mainstream, Kane has not released an album that is just one love song after another. Based on life experiences, the songs reveal an artist who is interested in offering more than a one-way trip down the love highway. The excellent ‘All We Really Want’ is a melodic reminder of the simple things we are missing, the things that at a basic level we all desire. However Kane does not lose herself in tying to be deep, after all, as ‘Happy Messy Love’ suggests, sometimes you just want to let loose and lust after someone for the hell of it! There is no denying Kane has a unique and uninhibited style, though ‘Appetite’ is only a small representation of her talent. Kane’s live shows, and willingness to develop her craft, suggest there is a lot more to come. Watch this space. http://www.rachaelkane.com.au |
