:: Human Atom Bombs

Randy

The opening track “Chicken Shack” sounds like an early Beatles out-take on speed – it certainly grabs the attention! Randy are a four-piece punk rock outfit from Sweden who sound eerily similar to our local lads H-Block 101 (and probably 100 others). They sing about the universal themes of the working class, railing against society, smashing the state, etc, all in a two and a half minute punk song played at a million miles an hour. “The Human Atom Bombs” is a pretty good release – and a pretty good name. It’s raw and passionate and that’s what rock’s all about. Highlight tracks for me include “Karl Marx and History”, “Addicts of Communication” (if only for it’s immediate contrast to the first track!). “Summer of Bros”, a Beach Boys inspired tune – this is what they would have sound like if they’d been The Clash. The feel of this album is real rockabilly/punk, with musical seeds definitely planted in the 50’s (just check out the rhythm section). It’s best demonstrated in the title track, which of all things is an ode to Little Richard – fairly unexpected amongst the ‘call to arms songs like “If We Unite”, “Freedom Song” and “Who’s Side Are You On?” If you like The Living End and H-Block 101, look out for Randy.
